Carr & Co fourth in Rottnest swim

Apr 4, 2016

Carr & Co

On 19 March 2016 Carr and Co put in a team of 4 to partake in the inaugural Port to Pub Rottnest channel swim.

The participants in the event included:

1) Benjamin King (of Carr and Co);

2) Ross McClean;

3) Justin Palmer; and

4) Justin Nuttman.

The team had a fantastic day out on the water coming in a respectable time of 4 hrs and 58 minutes to complete the race and finished in 4th place in the 4-person teams category.

For the first half of the race the boys were doing 5 minute turns in the water, being 5 minutes of flat out swimming, then 15 minutes in the boat.

Once the team reached about half way they discovered that they were neck and neck with the team that ended up coming 3rd and as a consequence they shortened their rotations to 3 minutes.

Unfortunately the other team pulled away slowly in the closing kilometres.

We are happy to report no sharks were spotted and are looking forward to the possibility of participating in future Port to Pub swims given the team’s success and how much fun those involved had.

Carr and Co would like to thank Mr Peter Rash for skippering the event and providing his boat, Mr Phillip King for paddling and Ms Danielle Wright for time keeping.

As a side note the team all thought they would be safe in the water due to the fact a shark shield was on the underside of the kayak. It was not until the team reached the beach at Thomson’s Bay that they discovered that it had not been turned on at all for the duration of the event!
